How to start with your first bumper?

We started with the first TractorBumper because we thought that the lighting and shielding of an agricultural tractor could be improved.

There were hardly any other suppliers, so we had to discover everything out ourselves. From standard distances of lifting balls to laser cutting, bending and welding of the construction.

We made a lot of scrap,

especially in the beginning where the grinder and drill are used a lot.

Often you start too complex and eventually you go further and further towards simplicity where you think in frustration “why didn’t I start like that right away, that would have saved me a lot of time!”

To avoid frustration,

We want to help you. We have collected a total of 20 tips to help you get started on the right way to making a beautiful TractorBumper yourself.

This ranges from standard ball distances where your basic design starts, how to weld, extra weight to place in your bumper to finally painting the parts so that they are still neatly painted after a few years.

The ‘build-it-yourself’ guide.

This is PART 1 with 10 tips. In PART 2 another 10 tips will follow.

We collected 20 really useful bumper tips, which we have also thought about for a long time and which we have learned over the years (12.5 years).

This way you can do it right the first time 😉

So start your summer project!

One of our tips: – Tabs

With tabs and slots, you can position parts with up to 0.2 mm accuracy—no need for complex jigs.

Puzzle pieces
By using tabs and slots, you can design it so it can’t be assembled the wrong way during welding— like a SIM card with one angled corner.
